Pelican Point
History: The Pelican Point Condominiums, completed in 1973, were designed by an architect named Hoover who also designed our South Gate House. Hoover planned luxury units with 9 foot ceilings...with vistas of the Monterey Bay, the Pajaro River and the Watsonville Slough. His vision for Pajaro Dunes was the last one in a linebegun prior to 1900. The following is a condensed excerpt from a chronicle written by the son of William Locke-Paddon:
"Watsonville's beach was originally developed prior to 1900, by the Goodall & Perkins Steamship Company operating out of Seattle, Washington. They built a freight depot at the end of Beach Road. They also built a small resort hotel, a number of cabins and a dance pavilion around the depot, named CampGoodall.  In 1902, the Watsonville Transportation Company purchased land just north of CampGoodall and built a wharf which ran a quarter mile out from shore. An electric railway carried passengers and freight from Watsonville out Beach Road to the Wharf. In 1911 a new 1,700 foot wharf was built. The Pajaro Valley Development Company bought the beach land and subdivided it with lots selling from $150 to $500 apiece.  The California Pacific Company developed Calpaco, a tent city resort with sidewalks and running water to each tent. From 1919 to 1921, William Locke-Paddon, a San Francisco developer, took over, and changed the name Camp Goodall to Palm Beach and announced plans for a large resort which included restoration of the old hotel and dance hall. Lock-Paddon planted the Holland Dune Grass, and the Cypress and Eucalyptus trees that grow here to this day.
Physical Layout: 87 Units in 6 clusters including: Clusters A-D, the Point and the Roost. Each cluster contains 2 to 24 units on 3 levels. Floor plans vary with some units being single level on the inside and some having two stories and range from 1 to 4 bedrooms.
Epilogue: When Plans were made to create a community for beach homes, the old pier and the hotel, all the evidence of former dreams, were gone. A twenty-five year effort, working with a new dream envisioned in the '60's of gradual development saw to the completion of Pajaro Dunes. We've kept what was priceless and added to it with sensitive planning and careful design.
Maintaining the unique nature of things at Pajaro Dunes is our highest priority.
